Celtic Tigers power home to secure the win over Wildcats!

First place Celtic Tigers, ran away with a 27-point win over third place Wildcats in the A Grade Men Domestic Competition at the Mars Minerdome on Monday night. Celtic’s Tristan Fisher was a key player in the match, scoring 26-points for the match, alongside Jamie Constable scoring 12-points.

In a physical, fast paced, high intensity game, right from the opening siren it took only 15 seconds for Celtic’s Ross Weightman to nail a successful three-point shot. Following a series of defensive rebounds off the glass, Tristan Fisher and Sam McMaster took full advantage of this, notching a few three-point goals, and quick points in the paint.

A high foul count by both sides saw Celtic Tigers and Wildcats being sent to the free-throw line on multiple occasions. A hard foul committed by Wildcats’ Dane Sisic saw Celtic Tigers hit two from two at the free-throw line. Celtic Tigers ended the first playing period with a three-point buzzer beater by Sam McMaster setting Celtic Tigers up with an eight-point lead over Wildcats (23-15).

Following the half-time break, Celtic Tigers came out the an explosive start to the half, scoring 20-points in the first eight minutes of the second playing period to Wildcats’ eight. This was a result of a series of steals and defensive rebounds by Grant James, leading to many fast breaks taken full advantage of by Tristan Fisher and Jamie Constable.

Wildcats’ Will Reed fought back against Celtic’s run, nailing four quick points from fast breaks in the space of a minute.

Tristan Fisher came out to blow out Celtic’s lead, knocking down two three-point field goals with 30 seconds of each other, giving Celtic Tigers a 31-point lead with five minutes remaining in the second half.

A few quick points in the last five minutes saw Wildcats score 10-points in a five minute window, but unfortunately wasn’t enough to see them get over the line. Celtic Tigers secured the win 70-43.

Both Celtic Tigers and Wildcats will enter their Finals Campaign next week with Celtic Tigers taking on second place Wildcats Gold, 8:00pm Court 1, and Wildcats taking on fourth place Phoenix, 8:00pm Court 3.
