Rinaldi to Extend Games Record

The Harvey Norman Ballarat Rush have now signed on both 2015 co-captains for the 2016 South East Australian Basketball League (SEABL) with club games record holder Kristy Rinaldi putting pen to paper.

When Rinaldi was asked why she signed on for an 11th SEABL season she replied with “Dave definitely had a big impact on my decision to return to the club.” Rinaldi added “I believe the club is heading in the right direction with his appointment and I’m excited to be a part of it.”

Rinaldi and the Rush had a tough 2015, with a slow start and losing some close games but managed to finish strong beating three of the Eastern Conference finalists in Brisbane, Geelong and Nunawading.

Head Coach David Flint was pleased that Kristy has re-signed for another year “Kristy brings experience, leadership and toughness that is invaluable” Flint continued “I have watched Kristy from the sidelines over the past few years, she will be an integral member of our squad, and I very much look forward to working with her.”

Rinaldi, who surpassed the games record of Andrea McMahon earlier in 2015, is likely to play her 250th SEABL game next season. Rush Elite Teams Chair Kym Cassells stated “It’s great to have our games record holder back for 2016.  She provides leadership to our team with her experience at SEABL level” Rinaldi is currently sitting on 235 games and with an expected 22 game season in 2016 Rinaldi will surpass number 250 with six games and finals to spare.

Rinaldi is the second signing for the 2016 SEABL season and said the aim is “Definitely to make finals. From there anything can happen.” Rinaldi continued “We’ve missed out playing when it really counts the last couple of seasons and I know we will be keen to get back there.”

Rinaldi along with the Youth League Rush players have been working hard at Spartans Gym with regular strength and conditioning sessions as well as structured court sessions with the coaching staff. Cassells expects that the Rush will have more players signed by the end of the week, with pre-season to officially kick off in the New Year.
