Rush announce signing of Thompson

The Harvey Norman Rush is proud to announce the signing of Olivia Thompson of the Melbourne Boomers

Olivia is enjoying a breakout season with the Boomers, leading the team in rebounding and is third on the team in scoring

Thompson is a 185cm combo guard/forward that previously had stints with the Townsville Fire where she spent two seasons averaging 3.3 points and 2.7 rebounds per game in 2013-2014 and 7.7 points and 4.3 rebounds per game in 2012-2013

The twenty-two year old has represented Australia on the international level four times. In 2013 she helped Australia capture the bronze medal at the World University Games, in 2009 she represented Australia at the FIBA U17 Oceania Championships and in 2010 she represented Australia at both the FIBA U17 World Championships and the FIBA U19 Oceania Championships

In 2009 she was awarded an AIS scholarship and spent time on the AIS Women’s basketball team from 2010-2012

As a junior she represented South Australia Country at the 2009 U18 Championships as well as competing in the U16 Championships in 2008 and 2007

Harvey Norman Rush head coach Peter Cunningham said “I am very excited at the signing of Olivia who will provide a big boost to our roster, who is an athletic forward will provide significant  mobility, scoring and rebounding to the team, after a standout year last year where she finished in the top 10 for the league in scoring – 17.8 a game, and rebounding 9.6 a game and was also voted the youth player of the year, After this season playing with the Melbourne Boomers in the WNBL she will also be invaluable in providing leadership to the group and a role model for our younger players.”

Harvey Norman Rush will arrange for Olivia to visit Ballarat in the upcoming weeks for media appearances
