Ballarat Refs Take Gold

Over the past week, Ballarat Basketball referees have been busy attending representative events across the state.

Josh Jones, Fletcher Martin and Chloe Dunmore were selected by Basketball Victoria to attend the Australian Junior Country Basketball Cup (ACJBC) held in Albury/Wodonga from Sunday 15th to Saturday 21st of January 2023.

The ACJBC is used as a development opportunity for players and officials within the Basketball Victoria High-Performance program. Players and officials are selected from country regions of states within Australia and New Zealand to attend this event which consists of two days of training and development before five days of Tournament gameplay culminating in finals.

All three Ballarat Referees were awarded the following gold medal matches:

  • Josh Jones – U14 Boys Gold Medal Game
  • Fletcher Martin – U16 Girls Gold Medal Game
  • Chloe Dunmore – U18 Girls Gold Medal Game

Additionally, Chelsea Randich, Noah Barwick and Tanika Langdon were nominated and selected to attend the Southern Cross Challenge held in Melbourne from Friday 20th to Monday 23rd January 2023. This event showcases the State's best U14 and U15 players in exhibition matches against interstate teams.

All three referees represented Ballarat well and Barwick was appointed to the U14 Girls Gold Medal game.

Basketball Ballarat Referee Manager Chloe Dunmore said, “Events like these are a great opportunity for our local officials to continue their development through officiating high-quality games, meeting new people and gaining valuable feedback from experienced referee coaches from across Australia.”

Dunmore added, “the added benefit from having six selected referees attend these events is that they bring back this knowledge to apply to our local competitions and pass on to fellow local referees.”

Basketball Ballarat referees will now turn their attention to local competitions running Monday to Saturday with the opportunity to prepare for the Victorian Junior Country Championships to be held across the state in the coming months.
