The Ballarat Sports Events Centre & Minerdome are pleased to confirm that local community basketball and netball competitions will return to their venues.

After ongoing consultation with Basketball Victoria and Netball Victoria via the Victorian Government, the Return to Play strategies have been implemented with the Health and Safety of the local community a priority while encouraging participants to keep active.

Junior Competitions will commence on July 13th for Basketball and July 22nd for Netball which is positive step forward for the local community.

“Our goal is to return to local sport when safe to do so and our competition framework for the coming season has been set to allow for any changes necessary to meet any future Basketball Victoria, Netball Victoria or Government directions.” Peter Eddy Said.

The Senior Competitions will commence a week later on July 20th for Basketball and July 26th for Netball.

“The opportunity for those missing their regular sport to play Basketball and or Netball is attractive with Senior Basketball on Mondays along with a new A-Grade Senior Netball Competition on Thursday Evenings” Peter Eddy said.

Basketball Ballarat and Netball Wendouree are currently working on skeleton staff and focusing these resources primarily on the local competitions to ensure a safe and positive experience for all participants.

“We have had great support from our staff working reduced hours and local club volunteers in trying to provide a return to community sport and we want future participants and families to respect the Be Kind initiative and have patience and respect for those changes needed to allow for a safe return to sport” Peter Eddy ended with.

Basketball Ballarat and Netball Wendouree are fully aware of the current increased Covid cases in Melbourne. We must emphasise the importance that all our community are following the Victorian Government restrictions and also the advice when returning to play within the Ballarat Competitions. Our sport is fortunate to be given the opportunity to restart and the whole Ballarat Community must work together and follow the guidelines to minimise the risks and maintain a safe environment for participants, staff and broader community.
